The Return: Satellite Maps Song Review

Hello guys,

It’s been so long, and I hate saying that I’m busy because that’s never an excuse. There’s just so much to do at school this year, and the motivation for posting has gone unfortunately. But lately, it’s been coming back. I miss this safe space to write my reviews. There are amazing opportunities I want to take advantage of. That’s the quick update as to what’s been going on with me. To kick things back up slowly, here’s a quick music review I wrote a long time ago. Around a year ago exactly. It’s interesting to see how not just how my musical tastes have changed over a year, but how my horizons have opened to more genres, and inspirations. So here’s what Phyllis from a year ago was obsessed with. I still love Satellite Maps, but now when I listen to it, it’s less emotional, and more a quick tune. A 5/10 from a year ago, but now I think I’d give it a 7? The aspect with how the song is captivating with such an easy beat, never ceases to amaze me. Enjoy!

Bette Davis Eyes Song (Music Week #6)

Sorry guys I was on vacation where I couldn’t keep posting! Here goes!

220px-kimcarnesgypsyhoneymoon1

Artist: Kim Carnes

Album: Gypsy Honeymoon, Bette Davis Eyes

Genre: Rock

Release Date: July 12, 1993

Record Label: Captiol Records

Rating: 7.0

Kim Carnes is a name that you bring up, and everybody nods in approval or recognition. Her reputation has been built up after her success from “Bette Davis Eyes”. There is no denying the boost the song gave to her brand name, after winning the Grammys for Record of the year and Song of the Year. Kim is also known for her rock, country experience and blue eye soul background. She has a distinct raspy voice and throughout this compiled album, it is heard well. Bette Davis Eyes is perhaps the best song on Gypsy Honeymoon. Written by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon, and receiving praise from the Bette Davis herself, this already gave a good impression to listeners. When listening to it, we are introduced to the famous tune and it carried an odd feeling that makes you want to move around and dance. Continue reading

Music Week+Reviews

FullSizeRender (4)

Hey everyone,

Exciting news! This year I started a music blog, and I wrote around 10 music reviews with a collection of random drafts. I’ve decided to re-post the music reviews on this blog. The truth is I love to read while listening to music (that’s why I have playlists). Music can enhance emotions, something I’ve further learned this past month. The blog is about what I enjoy, but at the end of the day, I do want you guys to like reading it too. I want you guys to take something out of it, so I do think music reviews will be a nice addition. Starting today on a random Wednesday, I will be posting music reviews everyday for approximately a week. Hopefully, there will be an amalgamation of songs and albums of all genres that you guys can enjoy. Without further to do, open your eyes to a world of music!

Phyllis 🙂 (Side note: I took this photo myself!)

Music Playlist+Summer Reading List

Hello everybody,

Recently I have fallen in love with an artist. John Mayer is a true gift. He has amazing talent and his lyrics are to a great extent something that I respect. So I’ve created a playlist to go along with all of these summer reads. They’re peaceful to accompany your nice reading time alone :). Yep, that’s pretty much it for catching up. On to the annual summer reading list, except this time with books I’m planning to read myself. If you’re still reading this, I applaud you.
